Sub-Zero Group Inc. is a 3rd generation family-owned company proudly based in the United States. The company launched in 1945 as Sub-Zero Freezer Company, thanks in part to founder Westye Bakke’s personal experimentation with refrigeration as a reliable way to store his young son’s insulin. The company’s launch came two years after Bakke successfully built his first freestanding freezer out of scrap metal in his basement, and introduced the first system for preserving food at ultra-low temperatures—literally sub-zero. Inspired by Bakke’s desire to build the best, the company quickly established a reputation for quality and innovation and has never compromised on quality, using only premium-grade materials, state-of-the-art technology, and top craftsmanship.
In 2000, Sub-Zero introduced Wolf cooking appliances, bringing the professional temperature control typically limited to commercial kitchens into the hands of home cooks.
